What is cable assembly?

Cable assembly refers to the customized production of supply lines for specific applications. Cables are cut to the required length, fitted with stop parts and then a mains plug or appliance box is molded onto the cable. In contrast to cable manufacturing, where cables are produced by the meter, cable assembly includes all downstream processing steps to bring cables into a ready-to-use form. This includes crimping, soldering, insulating and overmoulding connectors or appliance sockets as well as winding and packaging according to customer requirements. The electrical, mechanical and thermal specifications are always taken into account.

An essential part of cable assembly is exact compliance with standards and laws, for example with regard to bending radii, in order to guarantee flexibility and durability. The possible applications are diverse and range from simple connection cables to individual solutions for industrial and technical applications.

Our assembly process in 5 steps:

To ensure the highest quality and precision, cable assembly at Plastro Mayer follows a structured process. Each step is designed to produce customized and reliably functioning solutions that are optimally adapted to the respective areas of application:

 1. analysis of requirements: Selection of suitable cable yard goods, or cable production according to specification.

 2. cutting of the cables: consideration of the required lengths, as well as stripping of the connector and device side.

 3. assembly of connectors: Attaching the plug bridge, as well as overmolding the plug and appliance box, including ensuring electrical and mechanical stability.

 4. quality control: 100% electrical and visual inspection of the power cables.

 5. installation or shipment: The ready-to-connect cables can be installed directly by us or shipped to you.

FAQ's cable manufacturer

What is cable assembly and why are quality standards important?
Cable assembly involves the individual adaptation of cables to specific requirements. This involves cutting cables by the meter to the desired length, fitting them with connectors or contacts and then testing them. High-quality workmanship and compliance with strict quality standards, e.g. pull-off testing or final electrical testing, are crucial to ensure reliable signal and power transmission as well as safety standards and prevent premature failures.
What are the requirements of a cable assembly?
The requirements depend heavily on the respective application. The most important factors include - Mechanical load capacity: Depending on the environment, cables must be able to withstand mechanical stresses such as bending, tension or torsion. - Electrical properties: Insulation resistance, dielectric strength and shielding are crucial for safe operation. - Environmental influences: Resistance to moisture, temperature fluctuations or chemical substances. - Compatibility: Precisely fitting connectors and assembly on the device side for error-free integration into your device.
What information is required for an inquiry to a cable manufacturer?
Our cable assembly enables customized solutions for almost any application. From choosing the right cable type and selecting suitable connection cables and connectors to complex cables with specific connector systems - we realize individual adaptations exactly according to your requirements. Whether a single item or a large series, we assemble cables exactly according to your specifications.
